The Dream of the 90s is Alive in Fashion

This season, 90s fashion is making a comeback, both on the runway and in street style.  Cher from Clueless would be totally buggin' about all of the cute chokers, sleek slip-dresses, and off-the-wall overalls that are on trend this spring.  Although the 90s was not my most fashionable era (Brittney Spears was my only connection to pop-culture, it's really not my fault), this revival gives me a chance to redeem myself! Now, I can incorporate some of these same trends into my wardrobe to create a revamped, modern look.  Here are some of my favorite 90s trends right now:

Dr. Martens

When I think of 90s footwear, Dr. Martens are definitely at the top of the list.  This brand has seen a surge of popularity among street style enthusiasts in recent years, and for good reason.  Doc Martens are my go-to combat boots because they're comfortable while making me look like I'm a lot tougher than I actually am.  They can be paired with the classic t-shirt and jeans combo, or juxtaposed with a flirty, floral dress.

The leather jacket is a timeless trend that works for any season.  This is the ultimate edgy piece that totally says "I'm a bad ass."  I wear my leather jacket with literally everything; it provides just the right amount of structure and texture to any outfit.

Skater dresses have never really gone out of style, although they've made a strong comeback recently.  They're versatile and look good on every body type.  The skater dress is an easy staple piece that can be thrown on without much thought.  They can be dressed up for a night out, or paired with sneakers for a casual day of running errands.

Crop Tops

Crop tops have come a long way from the 90s.  They're no longer just tiny t-shirts; crop tops have become more sophisticated, especially when paired high-waisted bottoms.  Celebrities have been rocking this trend everywhere-- even on the red carpet!

Crushed Velvet

Velvet is one of my favorite fabrics because it adds a fun texture to any ensemble.  Crushed velvet takes it a step further, however, because of its edgy, grungy quality.  Crushed velvet is a versatile and romantic fabric that can be worn in a number of different ways.
